Have you ever wondered why people snore? This is actually quite a difficult question to answer, if you try to focus on a single cause. The fact of the matter is, however, that there are several contributors that point towards the primary source of this predicament.

In the medical world, snoring can be defined as noises caused by certain vibrations that stem from the airways of a person’s respiratory tract, which only appear during sleep.

So the question as to why people snore while resting at such peaceful moments is what interests the most of snorers.

While people need to breathe every second of every day, the overall likelihood of someone snoring while awake is practically nothing because of the fact that a person’s relaxed muscles are the only things that actually lead to snoring.

While people sleep, their voluntary muscles relax on their own. Just as triceps relax while it rests during sleep, the throat does, to. Since the tissues that can be found inside a person’s throat are known to be quite soft, vibrating sounds ensue as an overall output.

Once such tissues ease out, the air passage will get narrower, causing much louder noises since friction has much more room to pass through and create vibrations.

All of such similar factors point to the reason as to why different kinds of snores exist that varies in pitch, tone, and loudness.

How loud a snore is can be attributed to the overall wind force that has to pass through air passages. If the wind goes by faster, the snore is more resonant and louder. This is why babies can snore, too. A baby’s snore isn’t usually called snoring, though, since they actually only make very mild noises that are caused by their respiratory tract. A baby’s snoring shouldn’t simply be ignored, however, because this could be a sign that there is something stuck within the baby’s respiration tunnel.

While snoring seems to affect men and women alike, no matter what age, men tend to snore much more than women; middle-aged men, most of all.

This happens to be so because men’s necks are wider and fleshier than those of women. Add this to the overall air speed, and is shall become clear why many people snore.
